That’s what I kept asking myself. Why Me? Why was my small, relatively insignificant blog, hit with a “brute force attack.” Really. That’s what they call it: Brute Force Attack. It’s an actual technical name for what happened to my blog about a month ago and why you haven’t heard from me in a while.
A brute force attack is what happens when some person(s) tries to hack into your blog. They repeatedly try to find the password. Every two seconds for days I would get a notice that some one was trying to get into my blog, but was thwarted, or so I thought. We thought that by changing the password to something VERY complicated, we had stopped the Attack.
But we hadn’t. They got in and infected the blog with a virus of some kind and Word Press, to protect it’s other blog sites, shut down “I Am Curious Mellow”.
Then things got even more complicated. On the advice of Julie S. from Fabulous Blogging, I “hired” a security firm to clean out all the poison in the blog — reams of code had been corrupted and had to be removed. Then the blog site had to be re-built, under the protection of Securi, my new best friend.
Then we had to change the password again and now, maybe I can do this post. Still not sure everything is up and running and safe, but I sure hope so.
I should be back to my regularly scheduled posting. Although it seems to me, I’ve said that before. Keep your fingers crossed everyone.
And I keep asking myself, Why Me?
