I am not normally a fan of T Magazine, the style magazine of the New York Times. In fact, when it came this morning, I actually said, “I dread opening this.”
Turns out, I was wrong this time. It had some interesting and worthwhile articles. Although filled with skinny minny models showing skinny, minny clothes, it also had a feature on an amazing group of women artists, who are “hot” in New York now, but have been neglected by the big museums for most of their lives. And those are long lives, indeed. All of them are in their 80s and 90s.
To be honest, I wasn’t in love with their art (eye of the beholder, and all that) but I am in love with the fact that they are getting the recognition they are due. Although, to be totally honest, I’m a bit ambivalent about that. I’m disappointed that they have been ignored for so long. As Carmen Herrera, 99, says, “It’s about time!”
However, I am in love with their jewelry, their hair, their look. Much nicer than the women featured in the “barely there knit” bikini bottoms, which is the article that follows.
