I think white shirts are timeless — both as clothing and making me look “timeless.”
Here’s a link to Oprah with some more great photos of women wearing white shirts. If you search on her site, you’ll see a lot of articles.
Keeping them clean and crisp is a challenge. My experience is that the key is the quality of the fabric. It has to have some “heft” (or is it “hand”) to keep it looking crisp with the collar standing up.
Here are some good sources for crisp, cotton shirts: Talbots, Ann Taylor, and, of course, my long time favorite, Chicos. Chico’s shirts are perfect for travel. They don’t wrinkle, even when folded and can be dressed up or down. Chico’s has a wide range of colors, including white. I own two whites, a blue, and a magenta.
One of my favorite blogs, The Vivienne Files, had an article about white shirts. She almost agrees with me about how useful and elegant they are. Take a look at her great blog and search “white shirts.”
